Visit London sees record visitor figures to EIBTM stand

11 December 08

Visit London and its stand partners at EIBTM expect to receive record enquiries following an extremely successful show in Barcelona.

Barbara Jamison, Sales Manager, Europe at Visit London said: “This year’s EIBTM proved to be one of the most successful shows to date. The stand received record visitor figures to both our London destination presentations and to our partner areas. EIBTM is a key industry event for Visit London and it has proved year on year to be a key driver for events in the UK capital. Our target for the show was to beat last year’s figures and following a very busy few days of appointments and stand activity we expect to at least double that amount in confirmed business this year.”

This year’s stand was brought to life with a number of interactive activities including a groundbreaking mobile technology showcase from Nokia entitled Nokia Point & Find. The new innovative service enables people on the move to access content on the internet, simply by pointing their camera phone at objects such as hotels, venues or theatres that are tagged with information accessible through the internet – a piece of technology which could be incredibly helpful to a delegate visiting a new city. The technology was showcase on Visit London’s stand throughout the three-day exhibition.

As well as the many interactive activities on the stand the Visit London team also launched two brand new publications. The first was the association directory London for associations – a destination guide to meetings. The second publication to be launched was the 2009 Event Planner’s Guide. Both directories were extremely popular with EIBTM visitors.

Visit London’s stand featured over 20 London partners which ranged from large conference centres and exhibition centres, hotels, unique venues, Royal palaces and Destination Management Companies. One partner Novotel London West used EIBTM as a platform to announce their extensive refurbishment plans which are designed to position the hotel as one of Europe’s leading conference and convention hotels. General Manager, Michael Sloan, unveiled the plans at a press briefing held on the 3rd December.

James Rees, Head of Conferences & Events for ExCeL London – An ADNEC Group Company added: “This year was the busiest ever EIBTM for ExCeL London and we were delighted with the amount of new enquiries which were recorded over the three days. This event seemed to be extremely well received and attended and there appeared to be a heightened interest in our new convention facilities and London as a destination. Praise should go to both the EIBTM organisers and Visit London for producing a show and stand from which ExCeL London will surely reap the benefits in the next few months and beyond. “

Philip Hyland, Sales Manager for the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square said of the event: “Both the London Marriott Hotel Grosvenor Square & Grosvenor House, A JW Marriott Hotel had an extremely successful time at EIBTM. Both hotels are already witnessing positive evidence of interest direct from the show, thus confirming the importance of us exhibiting at EIBTM. The traffic brought to us via the Visit London stand was hugely prominent and I would suggest one of the busiest at the show itself. “

The über cool Mondo restaurant in Barcelona’s harbour area was the location for a stylish networking evening hosted by Visit London on Wednesday 3 December. The evening showcased a slice of London’s modern and vibrant style which was a perfect compliment to the exquisite Catalan cuisine. A team of professional Catalan musician and dancers gave the entertainment a London twist by matching traditional moves with modern music. Their performance was followed by a ‘dance-off’ involving buyers, with the winner of the competition pocketing a weekend for two at Brocket Hall, where they’ll be able to enjoy a five-star venue with a range of quintessentially-English activities such as golf, croquet and afternoon tea.
