Celebrate cinema across the capital with London Film Day
24 February 10
The Mayor of London has unveiled plans for the first London Film Day on Sunday 21st March, a major event to promote the cinema-going experience to people across the capital.
Organised in partnership with Film London and the BFI London Film Festival, London Film Day will feature 15 simultaneous World Public Premieres of Working Title Films’ NANNY MCPHEE AND THE BIG BANG as well as free film workshops in cinemas across London.
The event, which marks the first time that a world premiere has taken place simultaneously across so many cinemas, will offer discounted tickets (£5 for adults and £1 for children). Participating cinemas are spread across the city from Harrow to Croydon, Southwark to Wood Green (full list below) giving audiences across London the opportunity to get involved in the day, with some having the chance to see members of the film’s cast and crew!
Celebrating the achievements of one of the World’s most cinematic capitals, the day will also offer young film fans, families and visitors London the opportunity to take part in free workshops at each of the participating venues. Workshops will range from modelling and animation techniques to storytelling and storyboarding. There will also be a host of prizes available for those taking part, with competitions and ticket give-aways in the run up to the event.
As well as promoting the pleasures of the cinema going experience, the day recognises London’s role as one of the top three film-making cities in the world. 75% of the UK’s film-making activity is based here and the city’s production industries contribute an estimated £13.6bn annually to the capital’s economy. London is also one of the most filmed cities in the world with an average of 35 crews shooting in London every day.
Sally Chatterjee, Interim CEO, Visit London said:
‘London offers a great setting for filmmaking as there is a unique mix of history, iconic locations and multicultural neighbourhoods. We are pleased that so many Londoners and visitors to the city will be able to take part in this unique event and experience the excitement of a world premiere.’
