Voting now open for the BT Visit London People’s Choice Awards 2009

Visit London today announced the shortlists for the BT Visit London People’s Choice Awards 2009 after a record number of Londoners nominated their favourite attractions.
Now in their sixth year, and run in association with the BT Visit London Awards media partners; The Evening Standard, Magic 105.4 and Kiss 100, the People’s Choice Awards give Londoners the chance to vote for their favourite destinations, people and experiences of 2009. The public can vote online at http://www.visitlondon.com/awards.
This year’s people’s choice awards include Best Family Fun and Best London for Free Experience sponsored by the Evening Standard, London’s Hottest Music Event sponsored by Kiss 100 and, for the first time, members of public will be recognised for their contribution to the capital by the London’s Hero award sponsored by Magic 105.4.
The winners of each category will be decided by public voting which closed on Wednesday 30th September. The results will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at Westfield London on Thursday 5th November.

Magic 105.4’s London’s Hero
- Emma De Souza
As organiser of Kids Week in London’s West End, Emma is dedicated to bringing London theatre to a younger generation. Her commitment and enthusiasm have helped increase Kids Week ticket sales from a few thousand in the initial years to 51,000 this year. After Emma’s son was treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital, she was inspired to use Kids Week events to raise money for the hospital.
- John Mills
John has been a helper at Addiscombe Little League Football for the past 26 years. The League provides free football for children aged between five and 13, irrespective of their football ability. John has been Assistant Manager, Manager, Secretary, Referee and Chairman of the League, and has only missed a handful of Saturdays over the years.
- Betty Kobusingy
A youth worker for more than 15 years, Betty strives to help her community and the young people that attend her East London youth centre. Since moving from Uganda to the UK, Betty has become a fantastic role model for young people.
Visit London interim CEO Sally Chatterjee said: “The number of nominations we received this year has been incredible. The level of enthusiasm and passion shown by locals and tourists alike for London’s attractions show that our city is not only the number one destination in the world, but that it is striving to get better each year.”
Commenting on being shortlisted for the Evening Standard’s Best Family Fun Experience, David Sharpe, Divisional Director London Midway Attractions said:

Mark Camley, Chief Executive of The Royal Parks commented on Hyde Park being shortlisted for the Evening Standard’s Best London for Free Experience:
